Digital Camera Magazine feature in partnership with Nick Church Photography
Capturing Property Interiors
Earlier this year, I was fortunate to take part in the Apprentice feature for Digital Camera Magazine, spending the day alongside renowned interiors photographer Nick Church to learn more about the techniques and workflow behind professional interior photography.
The shoot took place at a beautifully designed contemporary kitchen near Bristol, providing the perfect opportunity to explore the challenges and creative decisions involved in photographing interior spaces. From composition and lighting to exposure blending and post-production, the day offered a fascinating insight into the attention to detail required to produce magazine-quality images.
Having spent much of my photography career documenting people and events, it was refreshing to step into a different genre and learn from a photographer whose work regularly appears in leading interior design and architectural publications. Nick's calm, methodical approach demonstrated how seemingly small adjustments to composition, perspective and light can have a significant impact on the final image.
Throughout the day, we explored techniques including handheld HDR bracketing, managing mixed lighting conditions, maintaining accurate verticals and horizontals, and using Lightroom's masking tools to balance bright windows with interior detail. It was a valuable reminder that successful interior photography is often about subtle refinements rather than dramatic interventions.
The experience culminated in a feature within Digital Camera Magazine, documenting the shoot and sharing some of the techniques and lessons from the day. It was a privilege to be selected for the Apprentice feature and an opportunity to learn from one of the UK's leading interior photographers.
Below are a selection of my images from the shoot that were featured in the July 2026 edition.
