Tucked away alongside the Grand Union Canal in North West London, the Grand Junction Arms is one of those venues that feels like a hidden discovery. Despite being just minutes from the bustle of the city, the venue enjoys a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere, with waterside views, a huge outdoor space and a characterful Victorian pub at its heart.

I was recently invited to photograph an event at this unique London venue, capturing the atmosphere, conversations and celebrations as guests enjoyed a fantastic afternoon and evening by the canal.

One of the things I enjoy most about event photography is documenting occasions as they naturally unfold. Whether it's guests reconnecting over a drink, sharing stories with old friends or simply enjoying the surroundings, the most memorable photographs are often the moments nobody planned.

The Grand Junction Arms provides an ideal backdrop for this style of photography. The venue combines the charm of a traditional Victorian pub with one of the largest outdoor entertaining spaces in North London, including terraces, gardens and beautiful canal-side views.

Throughout the event, my approach remained unobtrusive and documentary-led. Rather than directing guests or interrupting conversations, I focused on capturing genuine interactions and the atmosphere of the day as it happened. These are often the photographs that hold the greatest value long after the event itself has ended.

As the afternoon moved into the evening, the venue took on a completely different character. The outdoor spaces remained busy with guests enjoying the warm weather while inside, laughter, conversation and celebration continued well into the night. The mix of indoor and outdoor areas made it easy for guests to relax and enjoy the occasion in their own way.
